QCA member, Cassandra Langer spoke at the Smithsonian Museum of Art in Washington, DC on June 17th, in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, “The Art of Romaine Brooks.” Brooks, a lesbian painter and a member of the Parisian counter-culture between World War I and World War II, was known for her androgynous appearance. Langer’s book, “Romaine Brooks A Life” was published in 2015 and brings new understanding to the relationship between the life and work of this important artist. A webcast of the talk is available: http://americanart.si.edu/multimedia/webcasts/archive/2016/brooks/
